New Rural Virginia is an organization that advocates for the well-being and prosperity of ALL rural Virginians.
The needs and aspirations of people in rural communities in Virginia are too often given lip service during election season only to be overlooked the rest of the year. Changing that reality, together, with the goal of stronger, more vibrant rural communities is the reason for this initiative.
Our mission is to:
Achieve enactment and implementation of policies that help strengthen rural communities in Virginia through advocacy, education, communication, organizing, and mobilization, and to provide accountability when such policies are lacking.
New Rural Virginia aims to:
Fill a niche in Virginia politics and policy where Democratic visions and policies largely overlook and Republican visions and policies are counter to the needs of rural Virginians; be the force for rural Virginia that for the most part neither Democrats nor Republicans are fulfilling.
Promote policies, principles, and values relevant to rural Virginia communities through research, communication and education.
Advocate for policies at the local, state, and federal levels that will improve the lives of ALL people in rural Virginia communities including in agriculture, climate & energy, economic development, education, healthcare, land use, and taxation.
Organize and mobilize rural Virginians in support of said programs, policies, values, and people and build Democratic power in rural Virginia.
Provide accountability when ALL members of rural Virginia communities are not served by our governing bodies.
